Next up on our travels is Coral Bay. If we had our way, we’d probably be staying here for longer than 3 nights, however it’s school holidays and this place is packed to the brim.
We were lucky to even get a spot here, initially we could only get 1 night, but the lady was able to move a few people around and fit us in for 3 nights. This is a spot we were excited to visit, it was apparently the best place in WA for snorkeling.
Tuesday, JUN 27TH – (DAY 82)
Before setting off for Coral Bay, we had a couple of tasks to do. Coral Bay is a tiny little spot and the supermarket looked pretty barren on the Google search we did. So we stopped via Woolworths to pick up 3 nights worth of ingredients for tea.
Next we got some fuel and then we were on our way at around 11am. Today was a 2h30m drive and we were feeling under the weather a bit. We had all the COVID symptoms, but blew negative on two tests, so who knows what bug we have picked up.
Anyway, after a long drive and listening to Ready Player Two and trading podcasts, we arrived just after 2pm. This town was indeed tiny. It quite literally is one road with caravan parks on one side, and a few shops and the beach on the other side.
While we were waiting to check in, we were looking at the park map and Linnie said I bet we end up on site 78. Sure enough, the lady had us booked on site 78, what a fluke!
After setting up, we went for an explore into the town for a late lunch, then did a beach walk and gave Mike a call for his birthday and saying hello to everyone back home.
We explored the beach area some more, than came back to the caravan and chilled out, cooked some tea a little later on, then did some more chilling out. We were still feeling rundown, so had an early night.
Wednesday, JUN 28TH – (DAY 83)
Today we planned to go snorkeling for the first time with our new gear. For most of the morning we lounged around our caravan area catching up on work, playing games, playing piano and stuff. Then we made a bit of lunch around midday.
Then after lunch we headed down to the beach with our snorkeling gear. It was a warmish day but pretty windy, so we were hoping the water wasn’t too cold.
The beach here was stunning. It’s that beautiful aqua light blue colour, and apparently it’s one of the better spots in WA to go snorkeling. We spent a good half hour or so swimming around, but damn the water was chilly after a while!
Eventually we headed in for a break as Adam was getting an ear ache from the water. After another little swim, we spent the rest of the arvo lying in the sun on the beach reading our books and relaxing. A prefect day really!
We then headed back to the park and had some showers, then went and got some snacks from the grocery store. For the rest of the evening we did what we usually did and just hung out at the caravan.
It gets really chilly in the evenings here so we got the heater going and rugged up.
Thursday, JUN 29TH – (DAY 84)
With not much to do in Coral Bay other than head to the beach and snorkel, today was going to be much the same as yesterday. That was fine by us though!
Our morning was spent catching up on work at the caravan and enjoying the nice weather. After lunch we headed back to the beach for another go at snorkeling.
While the water was cold, it felt warmer than yesterday and we had a really good snorkel, seeing a ton of fish as we swam around the reef. We didn’t take our phones with us so we unfortunately didn’t get many photos to today.
Later in the afternoon and evening we relaxed around the caravan, then had another games night with Jamie, Jack and Rach, learning and playing a new game called Ticket To Ride. This game was good and I think it will definitely be added to the rotation.
That was it, our short stay in Coral Bay over just like that. Tomorrow we were off to Exmouth, one of the spots we are looking forward to most on this trip!
