NBA Final Day Shenanigans

A well earned sleep in was on the menu again this morning, with nothing to do until midday and the city on our doorstep for later on, why not!

Today we’re off to the final NBA game of our trip (or are we…?). The game was a matinee tip off between Sacramento Kings and a severely depleted Phoenix Suns team without Durant, Booker and Beal. It was also the final day of the regular season so there was plenty on the line!

As expected, the game was a bit of a walkover for the Kings, but we finally forked out for lower level seats and boy did it make a difference to the atmosphere!

We smuggled in a big bag of M&M’s, opting to forgo the bottomless popcorn like the last Kings game, as it turns out you can actually have too much popcorn. They even gave us all a free Kings t-shirt to say thank you to the fans.

It felt like we were right there with all the fans instead of being up in the nose bleeds with the fair weathers which made the experience well worth the extra dollars.

With all the last season games of the Western Conference being played at the same time, Adam was tuned into the Timberwolves game with one ear listening to the radio.

These seats were a vast improvement

The Timberwolves had to win to secure a place in the playoffs and rely on a handful of other games had to go their way to give them a home final.

One game in particular (Golden State vs LA Clippers) was still going after the Kings game so we made our way outside the stadium to Tom’s Watch Bar and settled in to watch the gripping last quarter.

The bar was packed and we even scored a local guy that decided to join our table, he was a bit of a male airhead but he was a champ to talk to and even apologised about Trump!

Needing Golden State to win so the Timberwolves could avoid a trip to the LA Lakers, it went to overtime and after a few bad misses by the Warriors, the Clippers got up – boo!

So this meant two things. One, Timberwolves will now be playing the Lakers in the playoffs and, two; we may be able to cut our Vegas trip short by one day to see them play in LA!

Watching the end of the Warriors-Clippers game

This was all depending on if the game is scheduled on Monday. But as the schedule hadn’t been released yet, we had our fingers crossed the sports gods are on our side!

The rest of the afternoon was spent strolling around Old Sacramento. We walked around the streets for a while and found a retro pinball arcade. Next we stumbled upon the historic train station and the old steamboat.

An unexpected feast for tea tonight

By now we were hungry and landed on a pizza restaurant called Frankie’s Pizza that even come with a free salad bar loaded with veggies, something we hadn’t seen in a while.

We pigged out on salad bar and pizza and rolled our way back to the Airbnb for an evening of relaxing, watching the second last episode or Survivor and getting stuck into some new Black Mirror episodes.

Tomorrow will be our first taste of the wrestling, as Sacramento hosts the last Monday Night Raw before WrestleMania, exciting!
